Aing-Tii Monks Baadu Bando Gora Baran Do Sages Believers Brotherhood of the Sith Cult of Ragnos Dark Jedi Dark Rangers/Renegades Dark Side Adepts Dark Side Elite Darktroopers Ela b'Yenntarr Empire Youth Aiki Order The order of Aiki Jedi order was founded a millennium ago, by Morihei Ushiba, a Jedi knight from a near-human, very long-lived race (though some historians attribute his long age to his very strong bond with the Force, and others dismiss his existence entirely). Ushiba, who was then 120 years old, was a Jedi who was fascinated with martial arts of various races. During his training at the Jedi Academy, he became a Warrior Jedi, but during his voyages through the galaxy he encountered a Shimuran Monk. Though he did not agree with Shimura's views on technology, he was fascinated with Ka. After studying Shimuran philosophy, he started his own school, where he taught the path of Aiki - the way of perfecting mind through the perfection of the body. His skills in both armed and unarmed combat were legendary, but since he started the Aiki Order, he never killed anyone - until his last fight. The Monastery of Aiki - as his school was named - was supposedly located on a moon in a system somewhere in the Core Words. However, nobody was able to find it, and some historians think that Morihei's school might have been located on a ship. The truth is that the moon was in reality a rouge asteroid, fitted with subspace beacons and sublight drives used to direct it's trajectory. There is a rumor that somebody in the Outer Rim territories has found a transceiver tuned to receive signals from Monastery's beacon... Morihei died at the age of 1,120 in his final fight. Ushiba and his lightbo (lightstaff) against Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine and 10 Dark Side Adepts. Ushiba maimed Darth, wounded Emperor Palpatine and killed all the Dark Side Adepts, but was finally killed by the Emperor's Force Lighting and a final stroke from Lord Vaders lightsaber. Some also say that he died to allow his son to escape... The Aiki Jedi believe that though technology is not evil in itself, the best weapon is one's own body. They follow the Jedi Code very strictly, and usually wander around the galaxy helping the poor oppressed. One must remember that being an Aiki Jedi is not just a way of being able to defeat an entire legion of the Emperor's best troops with his bare hands. An Aiki is a person who resorts to violence only as the last resort, even more than "normal" Jedi Knights. Of course, the ability to disable enemies without permanently damaging them (unlike lightsaber wielding Jedi, who disable enemies by cutting their extremities off) really helps - and is more proof that your body is the best weapon you can get. The best comparison is that while Jedi Knights are based on samurai, Aiki Jedi are based on Buddhist monks. The two core beliefs of Aiki Jedi are: 1) A commitment to peaceful resolution of conflict whenever possible. 2) A commitment to self-improvement through Aiki training. Aing-Tii Monks This strange race of creatures inhabits the furthest reaches of the Kathol Outback, near the Kathol Rift. They are one of the few travelers who actually seem to be able to navigate through the Rift, having been seen emerging from the Rift on several occasions. As a race, the Aing-Tii are tall, edentate mammals whose bodies are covered by bony plates. They have four legs, although they most often stand erect. Their heads are covered by helmet-like plates, and are dominated by two large eyes. They have no visible mouths, but use a group of long, thin tongues to sense and communicate. The tongues are used for tasting, smelling, and feeling. Much of their bony armor is covered with intricate, painted symbols that resemble the markings seen on their strangely-organic starships. Their tails, also covered with thick plates, are prehensile and often used in defense and attack. The Aing-Tii are also Force-sensitive, although they don't use it and control it the way Jedi Knights do. No one is sure exactly why, but the Aing-Tii patrol the Kathol Outback between the Marcol Void and the Kathol Rift looking for slave ships. They incapacitate the slavers with their Sanhedrim starships, then free the slaves. Baadu The Baadu, or Gray Jedi, are a rare breed of force users. They consciously try to remain neutral in the struggle between the Dark Side and the true ways of the Jedi. This is not an easy task, and it is harder to attain even a fair amount of neutrality when one is working with the Force. A very specialized Force Power (The Cleansing) is needed for the existence of the Baadu. The Way of the Baadu was spawned from Biirta Baadu, a human Jedi Master who flirted with the Dark Side for much of his very long, Force using life. He never actually became an adept of the Dark Side, but became quite well versed in its use. Biirta managed to develop a Force power that was able to keep him somewhat free from the clutches of the Dark Side. He was always just beyond reach. He never taught anybody his findings, but his journal survived. A few copies of his journal were made, and they exist scattered throughout the galaxy. The Baadu tend to be very solitary. There is no unity in the ranks of the Baadu, and there may be enmity between members on the rare occasions they meet. The way of the Baadu is a lonely path, and few people can maintain the duality of consciousness it requires. Most Baadu tend to lead "questionable" lives, doing things along the lines of bounty hunting, smuggling, etc. Although these acts are certainly illegal (for the most part), their evilness can be questioned... Bando Gora This was the name of a cult of Force witches who were active during the years leading up to the Battle of Naboo. They once attacked the Outland Transit Station, an event which forced Dexter Jettster to sell his stock in the space station to Jango Fett. Sometime afterward, the Bando Gora attacked the planet Baltizaar, terrorizing the planet's inhabitants until the Jedi Knights were called into action. The Jedi were completely unprepared for the true nature of the Bando Gora, and many were killed in battle. Any others were captured and tortured. Only a few survived. Among them was the rogue Jedi Komari Vosa, who fell under the spell of the Dark Side of the Force during her imprisonment. She eventually used her growing powers to defeat the leaders of the Bando Gora and take control of the cult herself. Komari Vosa ran the Bando Gora from a fortress on the burial moon of Kohlma. It was during this time, shortly after the Battle of Naboo, that the Bando Gora developed a form of death stick that warped the mind of its user, creating a ready supply of drugged slaves for the cult. The cult was made up of two castes of beings. The lower caste served as the cult's soldiers, although few resembled their original forms. They were drugged with the altered death sticks, then twisted to the Dark Side of the Force by Komari Vosa herself, becoming mindless drones who simply did Vosa's bidding. The higher caste was Vosa's personal guard, allowed to have more independence in order to address any cunning being who managed to break through the ranks of soldiers. The cult was smashed by Jango Fett some ten years before the Battle of Geonosis, when he was hired by Count Dooku - who used the title of Darth Tyranus - to locate Komari Vosa. Jango caught Vosa on Kohlma, and would have killed her if Tyranus hadn't stepped in. Tyranus then explained that he had trained Vosa years before, and used the Bando Gora as a way to test Jango's suitability to serve as the template for the clone troopers that were created for the Army of the Republic. Baran Do Sages The Kel Dor species has a long and proud Force tradition known as the Baran Do sages. For thousands of years before joining the Galactic Republic, the Baran Do acted as advisors and seers for the leaders of the Kel Dor. Since joining the Republic, the Baran Do dwindled as the Jedi claimed the Force-sensitive members of the sepcies to add to their own ranks. However, those who were passed over by the Jedi or discovered too late to begin Jedi training continue to train under the remaining Baran Do sages, passing the eons-old tradition down as it was done before the coming of the Jedi. The Baran Do Sages originally began studying the ways of the Force to expand their already exceptional senses as a means of predicting danger for their people; in time, everything from war to famine to natural disasters were averted thanks to the Baran Do. Their powers developed out of simple sensory expansion into the ability to foresee the future, the past, and places far away. Once the Baran Do learned how to listen to the Force as well as to their own senses, they became an invaluable resource for investigating crimes, predicting future troubles, and discovering the truth about mysterious events. The Baran Do sages were revered as an all-seeing sect that could divine the truth from even the most complex and difficult situations. Most rulers of the Kel Dor oeioke traditionally had at least one Baran Do advisor. In the days when the Baran Do were more numerous, many high-ranking members of Kel Dor society had sages in their employ as well. Most government institutions made use of the Baran Do as part of their daily operations; a powerful Baran Do sage would often be used as an early warning system to help the authorities predict natural disasters. Such predictions and subsequent preparations prevented the deaths of hundreds and thousands. With the introduction of the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic to Kel Dor society, the Baran Do faded into relative obscurity. Mainstream Kel Dor society considers the Baran Do to be little more than wizards and prophets, but the sages themselves continue to proudly teach their old ways to students and apprentices. The Baran Do, almost completely forgotten by most Kel Dor, no longer have the influence they once did and, as a result, managed to go almost unnoticed by Lord Vader's Jedi hunting squads. The Baran Do philosophy revolves around quieting the mind and listening to the environment. It was this quiet, medative outlook that led them easily into the study of the Force as a sensory aid. The Baran Do learn to shut out the noise and clutter of the world around them and instead listen to the guidance of the Force; when at peace, the Baran Do sages are at their strongest. They listen, they watch, and they learn. The ways of the Baran Do are sometimes confused with inaction, but in truth a sage consults the Force on almost all matters, taking action once he is sure of his path. A long-held superstition amond the Kel Dor people is that men and women born with silver irises are exceptionally strong in the Force. The Baran Do sages believe this to be true and recruit those with silver irises fervently. However, Kel Dor who believe in the old ways often bring their children to the Baran Do for training a swell, and the sages rarely turn away anyone willing to learn. The Baran Do sages train apprentices for several years before they become full-fledged members of the order, but once they do, they are granted access to any knowledge the Baran Do possess. Modern Baran Do usually concern themselves with protectnig their people however they can, occasionally acting as foretellers and diviners for those who come to them seeking answers. Some members of the organization tracel the stars seeking knowledge that can be brought back to the Baran Do, while others take a more active role and react to threats they have perceived through the Force, even if it means leaving their homeworld for years at a time. Baran Do training focuses on medatative practises as well as the interpretation of sensations and visions. Many aspects of the training involve some form of sensory deprivation; an apprentice might be placed in a room with absolutely no light for hours or days at a time, or in a soundproof chamber, or any number of other ways to silence one sense to highlight others. Other training methods involve sensory overload, such as placing a trainee in a crowded room and forcing him to listen to a sage speaking on the other side of the room. The training regiment is neither rigorous nor physically taxing, but encourages introspection and thoughtfulness at all times. Baran Do sages are not quick to act unless extremely pressed for time or reacting to some immediate threat; during their training, they are taught to let their perceptions flow naturally, and as such they train at a very natural pace rather than rushing to complete their teaching. The Baran Do sages possess some rather useful powers as a result of their years as servants to the people. Many of them are able to predict weather patterns and even alter them given enough time and effort. Others, especially those who take a more active role in the conflicts of the Kel Dor, develop a highly attuned danger sense that allows them to act as defenders of the peace with uncanny speed. The Baran Do are also often seen as prophets, and rightly so, thanks to their ability to accept visions from the Force and translate them into premonitions of future events. The Baran Do have perfected the arts of mystics and seers and adapted them for life on the world of Dorin, and are still some of the most reliable foretellers in the known galaxy. To become a Baran Do sage, one must be able to empry one's mind completely, to listen without disturbing the mental silence. The greatest members of the Baran Do can see across the entire galaxy, far into the past and through multiple futures. They are almost never caught unaware, and they provide an excellent early warning system when disaster approaches. They are sought out by those who wish to know the path that is right for them, and when a great danger looms on the horizon they are often the first to act and help decide which action will save the most lives. While rare since the planet's integration into the Galactic Republic, the Baran Do sages still maintain a presence in the galaxy even if it is only a small one. Believers This was a group of beings who emerged in the Cularin System, during the years following the Battle of Naboo. The Believers, whose existence was discounted by the Jedi Knights at the Almas Academy, were dedicated to the study and practice of the Dark Side of the Force. As the troubling events in the Cularin System played out, more and more of the Jedi in the system began to turn toward the Dark Side and join the Believers, making the rumors of their existence more of a fact. Brotherhood of the Sith This ancient brotherhood of Jedi Knights split from the ranks of the lightsiders" when access to the ancient Sith lore was forbidden. The Jedi Council feared that the knowledge of harnessing the Dark Side of the Force would be twisted and used to perform many evil acts. The Sith brotherhood was founded some 2,000 years before the Battle of Yavin by a rogue Jedi Knight who yearned to learn more of the Dark Side of the Force. Together with about 50 followers, this rogue fled the Old Republic and established his own Sith order. With galactic domination on their agenda, these new Sith Lords quickly became distrustful of each other and abusive of their dark side powers. In a short time, they had nearly wiped themselves out again. One Sith Lord remained, a man by the name of Darth Bane. He swore that the Sith would never again vanish from the galaxy, but also made certain that they never grew beyond their means. He established a rigid code by which there could only be a single Sith Lord and a single Sith apprentice. When the Lord finally expired, his current apprentice was promoted and allowed to take his own student. This pairing continued for the next several centuries until Darth Sidious rose to power as the Sith Lord. Sidious eventually took Darth Maul as his apprentice, and hoped to take control of the galaxy by bringing the Old Republic down from the inside. However, Maul was destroyed by Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Sidious' plans were thwarted. Decades later, Emperor Palpatine established Darth Vader as the last Dark Lord through the rigorous training he gave Vader. Following the deaths of Vader and Palpatine at the Battle of Endor, and with the destruction of Palpatine's clones on Byss, the order of the Sith was exterminated. Cult of Ragnos This militant cult of practitioners of the Dark Side of the Force came to the forefront some ten years after the Battle of Endor. The Cult based their principles on the Sith teachings of Marka Ragnos, the Dark Lord of the Sith who had died some 5,000 years earlier. The first rumors of their existence were heard on Corellia and Tatooine, and their existence was confirmed when they managed to infiltrate a Jedi tomb on Chandrila and unleash a mutated rancor on Taanab. Led by Tavion, the Cult traveled to specific planets across the galaxy, siphoning Force energy to augment the power of the device known as the Scepter of Ragnos. After stealing information from the computers at the Jedi praxeum on Yavin 4, the Cult stole energy from planets like Corellia, Hoth, and Tatooine before focusing their efforts on the planet Vjun, the former stronghold of Darth Vader. The cult was eventually eliminated by Jaden Kor, who managed to defeat Tavion on Korriban and relegate Ragnos back to the spirit world. Dark Jedi Since the founding of the Jedi Order, thousands of years before the Battle of Yavin, only a small number of Jedi Knights have turned completely from the path of light to the path of darkness. To the Order, each Dark Jedi's story is a tragic tale, filled with ambition, passion, and mortal weaknesses. Although the Jedi do not like to dwell on these failures, every Jedi who takes on a Padawan is expected to meditate on the lessons provided by these Dark Jedi Knights. Many of them were Sith masters as well, drawing strength from both sets of lore. Dark Rangers/Renegades This was a name for those Kilian Rangers who succumbed to the Dark Side of the Force. Dark Side Adepts The courtesans and advisors loyal to the Reborn Emperor, who travelled the galaxy at his side and filled the halls of the Imperial palace, were Palpatine's dark side adepts. Followers in the dark side of the Force, they had great intelligence as well as some ability to manipulate the Force. Most people thought that the adepts were simply cronies who craved whatever crumbs of power were avalaible by hanging onto the Emperor's robes. They dismissed the adepts as fools and yes-men, but the truth was much more sinister. At the height of the New Order, long before the Rebellion gained its first victories, Palpatine would vacation on Byss and entertain his circle of intimates. Beings of great intelligence, they had proven their loyalty to their master. Guests at the palace were soon indoctrinated into the ways of the Dark Side. Unlike many of the Emperor's other servants, a number of these were aliens. Most of these individuals had already mastered the unique sorceries of their own species, and the Emperor has brought them to Byss as much to study their knowledge as to train them in his. While none of them were permitted to advance far compared to Palpatine's own level of power, they did become quite powerful indeed. Some were taught ways of combat and made into Dark Jedi. Others joined the elite of Imperial functionaries, traversing the galaxy and seeing to the proper enforcement of Palpatine's decrees. Still others were courtiers at the Palace in the new capital on Byss. Whatever they do, they enact the Emperor's will and policies with his total trust and confidence because their link to him through the Force allows him to always observe them. Before the Emperor's defeat, many had been gathered into the Imperial Ruling Council. It had been planned that eventually these adepts would replace the system of Moffs, Grand Moffs and governors, instituting a Dark Side Theocracy. With his adepts securely in power, they were to participate in experiments on the "Science of Darkness," feeding on and draining the life essence of the citizenry. Dark Side Elite This was the name given to the seven warriors trained by Emperor Palpatine in the ways of the Dark Side of Force. Known by the title of Executor, each of the seven Elite was believed to have been utterly loyal to Palpatine. Their leader was Sedriss, and among their ranks were Vill Goir, Zasm Katth, Baddon Fass, Krdys Morid, Kvag Gthull, Tedryn-Sha, and Xecr Nist. Only one member of the Dark Side Elite was known to have deserted his service to the Emperor and returned to the Light Side of the Force. This individual was Kam Solusar. With the death of Emperor Palpatine on Onderon, and the destruction of his stronghold on Byss, the members of the Dark Side Elite were also eliminated. Darktroopers Elite stormtrooper squads assigned to Operation Shadow Hand, they had been specially trained to use the Dark Side of the Force. Ela b'Yenntarr This was the Bosph name given to those members of their species who could use the Force. The term translated into Basic as "the chosen of the unknown spirits." Empire Youth Part of Hethrir's grand plan for the Empire Reborn revolved around using Force-sensitive children to promote the new regime. Hethrir kept his students on a worldcraft secretly located in the galaxy. He continually culled the children for their levels of Force sensitivity, often culling non-humans without regard. Those children removed from the worldcraft were sold into slavery, and the profits were turned over to the Empire Reborn. |
