Weaponry Page 2

Lightfoil
An imitation lightsaber, smaller and less reliable than the weapon it is modeled on. It occasionally switches itself off when struck by any other light-weapon although a master can modify this weapon so that this problem is solved.

Light Gauntlet
The Light Gauntlet, also a dated weapon was used mainly for defensive purposes during "The Sith War". Usually mounted to the arm, it projected the main saber blade forward, over the back of the hand and a secondary, and shorter blade back from the elbow.

Lightmace (Click For Picture)
This is a very complicated weapon to make and should only be attempted by masters. It has the normal hilt of a Lightsaber with a 'ball' on the end which sprouts out 13 small blades which are each roughly 20-25 cm long. They sprout out in all different directions which makes this weapon very hard to master using as it would be quite easy to hurt oneself with it. It also has a chain coming from the bottom of the hilt which is cortosis ore plated so that one may use it to defend oneself from Lightsaber attacks as well as to 'swing' the mace arround oneself to take out many enemies. Note that this weapon is very energy consuming therefore will not last as long as a regular lightsaber in battle.

Lightreaper (Click For Picture)
The Lightreaper is a development of the Lightsaber, and was used by a number of Jedi who liked the fact that it could be used as a normal staff as well as a Lightsaber, and therefore used for non-lethal combat. However the image of the weapon was also popular with Dark Jedi who liked the death implications of the Reaper to strike terror into their victims hearts. Although a Reaper is slightly harder to handle than a Lightsaber, this is offset by the reduced chance of striking yourself with the blade, and a much increased reach with the blade.

Lightsaber (Click For Picture)
This was the traditional Jedi weapon, used much like a sword. It consisted of cylindrical handle in which sophisticated circuits channeled a beam of light through a series of jewels, which modulated the blade's size and amplitude. It was considered one of the Jedi students' final challenges to construct their own lightsaber. Many Jedi Masters stressed the lightsaber as a true test of their apprentice's progress, for the lightsaber's power was great. A true Jedi Knight only uses the lightsaber for defense, never attack, and there was a great deal of patience involved with learning this. Some Masters also used the lightsaber as a way to get their apprentices to focus their minds on the Force, for it took a great deal of skill to wield one. Many Jedi Masters held that the lightsaber was the true Jedi's weapon because, while it could easily take the life of another being, it forced the wielder into close proximity to their opponent. This meant that a Jedi who was forced to kill another being had to look them in the face during battle. A blaster or other ranged weapon eliminated this personal link, giving the wielder the chance to alienate them from the death they caused. The mechanics of a lightsaber were simple, although the application of them took great skill and concentration. A novice Jedi Knight could create his first lightsaber in about a month. A trained Jedi Master could, in a hurry, construct one in a few days. Every lightsaber contained these basic components: a power cell, a handgrip, an activation plate or stud, a safety switch, a blade-length adjuster, an emitter matrix, and recharge socket, a lens assembly, at least one focusing crystal, a power conduit, and an optional belt ring. When activated, internal power cells create photoelectric energy which is focused through one, two, or three multi-facted crystals. In the lightsabers of the Jedi Knights, these crystals were found in nature, a task which requried the Jedi to focus their concentration on selecting a stone which would focus the energy and not explode. While ancient Jedi used all manner of crystals, most Jedi obtained crystals from the planet Ruusan, until these deposits were destroyed during the Battle of Ruusan. More often than not, the Jedi Knights of the Old Republic used crystals from the planet Ilum, which emitted blue or green blades. The Sith, however, used synthetic crystals formed in incredibly hot ovens, using their emotional control of the Force to assist in the formation of the stone. These Sith crystals generated a red blade which had the unusual strength to cleave a normal lightsaber blade in two. Jedi Knights of the New Republic era did not know of the Ilum deposits, and so many of them discovered other sources of crystals which produced a wide variety of blade colors. The energy was formed into a tight, parallel beam of coherent packets. These packets are emitted through a positively-charges, continuous energy lens which projects the packets away from the lightsaber. The packets are almost immediately attracted back to the lightsaber by a negatively-charged, high-energy flux aperature, and then continually recycled to create the glowing blade. The packets are recycled by a superconductor back into the power cell for re-energizing. The entire process is completely contained. No energy is lost, since the light in the blade is recaptured. No heat is generated, either. The only energy loss occurs when the blade strikes an object. When Obi-Wan Kenobi began teaching Luke Skywalker how to use his father's lightsaber, Kenobi began by showing Luke the basic body positions used by the Jedi. There were seven attack positions, and four defensive positions. Each attack or defense position flowed into the next, creating a smooth, continual motion. To perform them all in sequence takes concentration, skill, and stamina.

Lightsai (Click For Picture)
Lightsai is a very, very rare weapon, supposedly. It consists of a long (for such a small weapon), 20-25 cm handle with two side protrusions at the end. The blade is relatively short, about 20-25 cm, and has two smaller blades jutting at 45 degrees angle from the handle. Those additional blades are used for parrying and disarming an opponent armed with a lightsaber.

Lightscimitar (Click For Picture)
Lightscimitars are a variant of the standard Lightsaber, and although they do marginally more damage than the Lightsaber they have not proved to be as popular. The curve in the blade is produced by a weak gravity field generator in the handle which is enough to produce this slight kink in the end of the blade. This creates a larger area to impact on targets which accounts for the extra damage done by this weapon, however Lightscimitars drain their power supplies much faster than Lightsabers because of the extra drain of this gravity field generator, although this is usually considered to be no disadvantage when power generators are always near for a recharge, it can be when out in the field, perhaps the reason why this variant sword never became hugely popular.

Lightscythe (Click For Picture)
The Lightscythe is a very recent developement of the lightsaber. It is often used by many Jedi who like the fact that it can also be used as a blunt weapon so as not to kill targets. It looks like a regular scythe without the blade part of it until you turn it on upon which time a blade much like the lightsabers comes out from the top of the scythe. It has been made to curve by many small gravity field generators which are in the handle part of the scythe. Unlike the Lightscimitar this does not run out of energy faster than a regular lightsaber, in fact it lasts longer as it is able to fit many more power packs in its handle than a regular lightsaber, although this does mean that it takes longer to recharge.

Lightspear (Click For Picture)
The lightspear is a combination of a primitive spear and a lightsaber. The spear is modified to hold a lightsaber at its top, which can adjust its blade length to match a spears blade. Jedi's of ancient times, originating from more primitive planets, used this weapons. Jedi Master Fajon from Uthar built the first model of this weapon. His spear was equipped with a system, which ejected the lightsaber from the staff, three seconds after it hit a target in flight. This made him able to take his lightsaber in melee combat after throwing his spear.

Lightstaff (Click For Picture)
This is merely a Lightsaber with a longer than usual handle. It has many uses, besides being able to reach further than your oponent in battle both making it more difficult to predict your moves and also making it harder to control. It could also be used by Force users travelling in disguise, perhaps disguised as a walking stick with a cover over the blade emitter that can be flipped off for use in battle, and then flipped back on afterwards. Another use would be for Force users who ride mounts into battle, as being able to reach lower enemies would be more difficult with a regular Lightsaber. The longer handle enables the Force user to either add more enhancements onto their Lightstaff than they could a regular Lightsaber, or simply put more energy cells in so that the Lightstaff will not run out neary as quickly as a Lightsaber would.

Lightwhip (Click For Picture)
The lightwhip is the prized weapon of many Sith and Dark Jedi, but only a scant handful of Jedi. Similar in many respects to the Force Lash, the Lightwhips were harnessed energy coiled around incredibly strong, 2.5 to 4.5m long (length varies between users, and is based, in part, on the builder's height), alloy whips. They can easily cut through the strongest metals in the hands of a skilled user. Because the lightwhip is flexible and unwieldy, it is very dangerous to the beginner, and those without any formal training are as much a danger to themselves as they to others. In the hands of a skilled user, however, the lightwhip is capable of deflecting blaster bolts and solid projectiles, in addition to its formidable capabilities.

Plasmasaber (Click For Picture)
A Plasmasaber is, in all respects, an ordinary lightsaber. There is a special set of controls, which, when activated, starts a plasma reaction on the surface of the blade. When moving it through a gaseous atmosphere, it leaves a sparkling trail of the color of the blade. It does reasonable damage to organic beings. The controls typically found on a plasmasaber are plasma intensity, amount of plasma being released and heat intensity. The plasmasaber is not yet known to have any special effects in a liquid or vaccum atmosphere as it does in a gaseous one. WARNING: Plasma hitting shields causes a large explosion such as the one seen with Plasma Torpedo's

Protosaber (Click For Picture
This unit comprised of a separate hip power pack, power line and saber hilt. Some of the unique features of this lightsaber is that they were typically carved from duranium. Making this a truly hand crafted weapon of the Jedi or Sith. The crystals used for these were also very crude and typically exposed. Note that Protosaber is only the name given to them now, they were originally called lightsabers until better versions came out. (VERY old and outdated lightsaber...not used at all anymore).

Redsaber (Click For Picture)
This looks like an ordinary Lightsaber but is in fact very different. The actual cutting blade itself is a charged field of focused I.R. waves, making the blade invisible in all but the most extreme conditions (in an oxygen-rich atmosphere, the blade will slightly warp the air around it). Although this gives the user a distinct advantage, it is also incredibly difficult to use. Another setback is the heat the blade puts off. Unlike a normal saber, in which the blade emits no heat, a redsaber is capable of burning as well as cutting (the air near the blade reaches 2,500+ degrees). As a result, the saber is built with an internal coolant system. Unfortunately, the coolant mixture itself is very expensive, and must be replaced after every hour of continuous activation. However, the redsaber is also capable of a visible beam. A small filter inside the hilt, when activated, raises the frequency of the beam particles by 1 part per 1000. This causes a partially transparent, bright red beam in place of the invisible blade. Although the beam still emits heat, it s not nearly as hot as the un-filtered blade (reaching a peak of about 500 degrees).

Short Lightsaber (Click For Picture)
Lightsabers can come in shorter styles, often used in the off hand during two-weapon fighting. As in larger versions, different focusing crystals can produce additional effects.

Stunsaber
Incapable of cutting matter, the Stunsaber produced a neurological shock to the target, who would wake up in about ten minutes with a planet shattering headache. This made a perfect weapon for dealing with an unruly mob that the Jedi can not pacify. It handles exactly like a lightsaber, making it the perfect training weapon. Unfortunately, it can not block projectiles or blaster bolts. Less than fifty are believed to have been made. It can, however, be used to spar with other light-weapons or be used to absorb stun blasts although it can't deflect them.

Training Lightsaber (Click For Picture)
Padawans start their training at a very early age. Padawans younglings can start learning the basics of lightsaber wielding as early as four or five. However, it is possible for a Padawan to make mistakes. These training lightsabers are specially designed to feel and look like a standard lightsaber without the ability to cut through objects. A training lightsaber is in most respects like a standard lightsaber, with a few exceptions. Firstly, while the blade can be used to block blaster bolts (with the Lightsaber Combat Force power), these bolts cannot be deflected at targets. It is also much less lethal than a standard lightsaber, only being able to wound victims at most (by giving jolts of pain on contact). When used against an inanimate object, the damage of the Training Lightsaber is reduced greatly. They are also downsized to better fit into youngling hands.

Wristsaber (Click For Picture)
Although easier to use without harming yourself, the Wristsaber is a smaller less damaging version of the Lightsaber. Designed and used by Dark Jedi who liked the fact that this saber was always ready for action, and was easily concealable, the design was soon adopted by Jedi undercover agents for exactly the same reasons. Like most Jedi weapons the Wristsaber has become extremely rare after the Jedi purges, but the fact it is not an easily recognisable Jedi weapon has led to its adoption by at least one Jedi Knight attempting to avoid Imperial attention.
